Word of the Day: How to use 'Jadi'
Jadi can be used in the following ways:
(Transitive/Intransitive) Verb: to become, to materialise
As a transitive verb, (meN)jadi --> menjadi is used to state what one has become after certain changes. As an intransitive verb, it means that something happens or materialises according to what is expected.
Examples:
1. Pelakon itu menjadi watak jahat dalam cerita itu.
The actor becomes an evil character in that story.
2. Bila besar nanti, mahu jadi apa?
What do you want to be(come) after you've grown up?
3. Orang dulu percaya orang yang mati menjadi hantu.
People back then believed that dead people become ghosts.
4. Persetujuan menjadi langkah utama dalam menghadapi masalah itu.
Agreeing becomes the first step in facing that problem.
5. Walau apa pun yang saya lakukan, ia tetap tak menjadi.
No matter what I did, it just doesn't materialise (work out).
(Aspect Auxiliary) Verb: to happen (according to plan)
Jadi can precede the primary verb to express that the action is happening according to plan.

1. Esok jadi pergi.
We will be going tomorrow (according to plan).
2. Dia tak jadi belajar di luar negara sebab ibunya jatuh sakit.
He ended up didn't go overseas to study because his mother fell sick.
3. Walaupun sudah buat persiapan, akhirnya dia tak jadi (ber)kahwin.
Although he has made preparations, eventually he didn't get married.
4. Kami tak jadi masuk syarikat itu selepas dapat tahu tentang salah laku mereka.
We didn't end up working in that company after getting to know about their wrongdoings.
