Word of the Day: How to use 'Habis'

Habis can be used in the following ways:

Stative Verb: to be finished, to be used up, to end

Habis is used to describe the state of things that are no longer available as it has been used up or finished.

Examples:

 1. Duit saya sudah habis.

 My money is finished (used up).

 2. Pertunjukan itu sudah habis.

 The show is finished (ended).

 3. Dia makan semuanya sendiri sampai habis.

 He ate everything himself until it's finished (gone).

 4. Habis semua buku diconteng adik.

 All the books were scribbled by brother (younger sibling).


(Aspect Auxiliary) Verb: to finish

Habis can precede the primary verb to express that the verb has been done until it is finished or exhausted. 

Examples:

1. Dia sudah habis makan.

He has finished eating.

2. Habis sekolah nanti, terus balik.

Come back immediately once you have finished school!

3. Saya akan pergi kalau ayah sudah habis cakap.

I'll live now if you've finished talking.

4. Mereka sudah balik sebelum saya habis bentangkan projek itu.

They've gone back before I finished presenting that project.


(Transitive) Verb: to finish, to spend, to waste

As a primary verb, (meN)habiskan --> menghabiskan is followed by a direct object which the speaker intends to finish or has used up.

Examples:

 1. Dia suka habiskan duit dengan berhibur.    

 He likes to finish (use up) money in entertainment.

 2. Saya habiskan makanan kerana tak nak membazir.

 I finished the food because I didn't want to waste.

 3. Jangan habiskan masa dengan perkara tak faedah.

 Don't finish (waste) your time with non-beneficial things.

 4. Sila habiskan ubat ini walaupun sudah sembuh.

 Please finish the medicine even if you've recovered.

Word of the Day: How to use 'Lagi'

Lagi  can be used in the following ways: Adverb:  again, more, else Lagi  converys the idea of more. It usually comes directly after classifiers indicating the amount of objects. When referred to verbs, it means the verb continues or is repeated in the near future. Examples :  1. Tolong ulang sekali lagi.      Please repeat (again).  2. Kita perlukan 10 batang lagi.      We need 10 more.  3. Makanlah (banyak) lagi kalau masih lapar.   Eat more if you're still hungry.  4.
